f 5 airplane

F 5 Airplane - The American-made Northrop F-5 was first developed in the late 1950s or early 1960s. It was originally intended as a highly aerodynamic fighter with good handling characteristics including high thrust and supersonic flight and ease of maintenance.

Before the Iranian Revolution, Iran received extensive military aid from the US - the Imperial Iranian Air Force was no exception, receiving hundreds of F-5s in various variants. Iran also acquired several advanced fighter jets from the US and other countries, resulting in the sale of their F-5 frames, although they retained some for training purposes or as attack aircraft for pilot training.

In the US, the F-5 platform serves primarily as an attack aircraft for both the US Marine Corps and the US Navy.

The F-5 had a pair of engines and wings. . . It was very simple and perfect for an extra. Tiger [F-5 variant] Super Hornets and F-35s so equipped could pose a legitimate threat, especially in a training environment."

In or around 1997, the Iranian Aircraft Industry Company (abbreviated HESA) unveiled the Azarakhsh Lightning fighter jet. HESA has claimed that the fighter jets are fully indigenous and the manufacturing sector is ready for mass production of the fighter jets. Five or six airframes have been built since then.

Although HESA claims that the Azarakhsh design was entirely developed in-house, it apparently relied heavily on the F-5 design, although it may actually have improved engines and a stronger fuselage to withstand the added stress.

In the mid-2000s, Iran claimed another airframe, the HESA Saeqeh aircraft, was again entirely indigenously produced.

Aircraft Report: Adversarial F 5 Tigers

In an interview with CNBC, Joseph Dempsey, a defense and military analysis researcher at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), commented on Iran's claim of a fully domestically produced aircraft, saying: “The Iranians probably have the industrial capability. At least fix the fuselage joints for this aircraft. They've obviously been able to create some of these things," he says, acknowledging at least some Iranian design.

As previously noted, Iran likely has the capability to domestically produce parts for the Sakeh, as far as releasing video of the aircraft's assembly line. That Saeqeh is completely indigenous is probably wrong - they are more F-5s that have been repaired and are not airworthy.

There was also a two-seater version shown in 2015, although the original aircraft is thought to be a two-seater training version purchased from the US.

To be fair, the Saeqeh has one very noticeable difference, and that is its tail. The F-5s have two tail stabilizers instead of a single tail stabilizer in a V configuration. Additionally, it had modified jet inlets, but most likely came from refurbished F-5 airframe stocks.

Us Wants To Buy 'retired' Swiss Fighter Jets For Training Purposes

The latest iteration of the F-5, the Kausar, was unveiled in 2018 at a launch event attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani – claiming that this time they produced the "fourth generation" jet fighter entirely indigenously.

Babek Taghbhai, a frequent commentator on Iran's defenses, said when Kosar appeared: "Watch the propaganda of the #IranIslamic regime. An hour ago, a 42-year-old #US-built F-5F was unveiled as a test-only test for the Iranian Air Force's future trainer (Kovsar-88). was done, which was claimed to be a fully designed and built 4th generation fighter.. #Iran!”

Although the F-5 is a light attack jet fighter developed nearly 60 years ago, it is unlikely to pose a threat to modern jet fighters, especially those with stealth capabilities and adequate training.

Still, it is good enough for a training aircraft for the Marine Corps and Navy, although its capabilities and Iran's aircraft manufacturing capabilities should be taken with a large grain of salt.

The F-5N is a single-seat, twin-engine, strategic fighter and attack aircraft manufactured by Northrop Grumman Corporation. The F-5F is a two-seat, twin-engine, tactical fighter, typically used for training and enemy combat tactics. The aircraft serves in an offensive-training role with the ability to simulate existing threat aircraft in fighter combat mode.

As a tactical fighter, the F-5N houses the pilot only in a pressurized, heated and air-conditioned cockpit and a rocket-powered ejection seat, while the F-5F is a two-seat combat capable fighter. The aircraft has a rear-hinged upward opening canopy. The design focuses more on maneuverability than high speed, especially with the inclusion of maneuvering flaps.

The full-width leading flaps operate in conjunction with the trailing edge flaps and are controlled by a control in the pilot's throttle quadrant. The F-5 also features anti-skid brakes, an initial navigation system (INS), ALR-87 radar warning receivers (RWR), AN/APQ-159 radar, and ALE-40 chaff/flare capability. The aircraft carries AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles in wing launchers.

The F-5 was developed by Northrop Grumman in February 1965 for export through the Assistance Program (MAP). The aircraft was originally proposed as a candidate for an American light fighter, but became extremely popular as an export finding its way to overseas markets. . In December 1970, Northrop Grumman began design and production of the F-5A-21, which emphasized high-speed maneuverability and was officially classified as the F-5E. The F-5N/Fs are third-generation F-5 fighters designed to replace the production F-5A/B/E models. These older aircraft will be replaced by low-hour F-5N/Fs purchased by the United States Navy (USN) from the Swiss Air Force.

Currently, the Swiss F-5N replacement program is replacing current high-life Navy F-5Es with lower-life F-5Ns, allowing the USN/USMC to use F-5N aircraft through FY 2015 (FY). Phase depot maintenance (PDM) required changes to the USN configuration to provide safer, shorter flight time enemy aircraft for Department of the Navy (DoN) pilots. These aircraft are assigned to state facilities such as NAS Key West, Florida, MCAS Yuma, Arizona, and NAS Fallon, Nevada.
