Lajes Field Azores - Lajes Field is a Portuguese air base located on the island of Terceira. The nine islands in the Azores are located in the North Atlantic Ocean about 2,300 miles east of Washington, DC, and about 900 miles west of Lisbon, Portugal. Together they form the autonomous regions of Portugal. Known as the "Crossroads of the Atlantic," Lajes Field provides an important Mid-Atlantic link for America and the Army to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The medium of exchange at Lajes Field is the US dollar. The local currency is the European Euro. The exchange rate fluctuates daily and is affected by the strength of the US dollar in foreign markets. It is the second most populated church in the city of Praia da Vitória. This includes the area of Fundões, Caldeira, Canada da Caldeira, Canada das Fontainhas, Canada das Vinhas, Canada do Poço, Lajedo, Lajes, Picão, Rebtão and Santa Rita.
Lajes is best known as home to the Portuguese Air Force Base 4, which is used for military exercises, naval exercises, as well as regular and charter flights from North America and mainland Europe. .
