Douglas A-3 Skywarrior - "Actually, being on the runway wasn't as bad as it looked on film that day," said Frank P., former A-3 SkyWarrior crewman/navigator.
This interesting post video taken in 1963 shows a Douglas A-3 Skywarrior crash landing on the carrier USS Coral Sea. At 0:30 A-3 comes ashore. When it hits the ship, the nose wheel falls off, spins on land and falls into the sea. The plane takes off again and waits for instructions, while the barrier is raised. At 0:58 Sky Warrior arrives, hits a barrier and bounces off his nose. It comes to rest and the rescue teams come out.

"I was a sailor/navigator in the incident. We shot a brush. When we landed, it was torn apart like a lot of mud. We were also surprised. Actually, survival on land was not as bad as we saw in the movie later. that day we had 2 wires landing on the wall. there were some uncertainty.

"Although the fuselage was partially attached to the rear of the cockpit, the bird was taken to the Naval Air Rework Facility in Alameda, CA and later returned to service. But the two were not found, they did not crash.
With a maximum weight of 82,000 pounds, the A3D (renamed A-3) Skywarrior was the largest aircraft from the aircraft carrier of the US Navy, which gave rise to the name "Whale". First delivered to the fleet in 1956, the A3D stood for aircraft-carrying nuclear weapons, an anti-nuclear weapon (VAH) designed to deliver nuclear weapons.
Interestingly- the A3D had no ejection seats, the crew ejected and went down the exit chute under the plane. This led to the teams using the A3D acronym for Skywarrior as a nickname for "all three are dead."

Skywarrior: A 5-Minute History - On May 10, 1972, Navy F-4J Phantoms and Vietnamese MiGs exchanged missiles and fired missiles at the skies over Hanoi and Haiphong in one of the deadliest battles of the jet age. When SA-2 surface-to-air missile batteries took potshots at American jets from the ground.
Over the course of twenty-four hours, nearly a dozen jets burst from the sky—and they targeted Navy Phantom pilot Lt. Curt Doss that the time has come for the events described in the A-3 Skywarrior units of the Vietnam War. . Rick Morgan:
More Than Just A Bomber: America's Skywarrior Saved Hundreds Over Vietnam
"Two SA-2s in echelon came out from the ground, already dropping their attachments. I pushed my nose to negative-G to look at their target and all the SAMs fired-they were all on me. I pulled to 7G and on them. Theo was chasing us. directly at Match 2. Not to let us down, they blast their warhead ball right into our room.
"I saw the small cartridges of missiles making a final adjustment and preparing to go, but they did not explode. The leader of the SA-2 flew five meters above our roof and the second one flew 20 meters in front of our noses. I turned to the right and fired two SAMs at close range. it's us.
Doze returned safely to his work. During the conversation, he learned that his escape plane was an EKA-3B Skywarrior electronic warfare, a former bomber that had been converted into a multi-purpose ship and platform.
Loaded with multiple Fansong missile guidance radars around Hanoi, the EKA-3B operator switched to jamming the frequencies used to send detonation commands to the fuses on the missiles. The Phantom pilot gave his rescuer the remaining half of the vodka.

The Douglas A-3 Skywarrior, or "Whale," was a very large fighter jet that was often flown from a cargo bay. Although its mission as a nuclear bomb was short-lived, the A-3 produced a soup of colorful letters whose contributions to the Navy were long-lasting and useful. Another piece looks at the Skywarrior's early role as a bomber and tanker, while this article focuses on some of the more colorful missions performed by reconnaissance and electronic warfare types.
The Skywarrior had already proven to be more effective as a bomber in Vietnam than as a cargo carrier to support high-speed aircraft. But naval pilots also need electronic warfare support to escape.
